california dreaming
[diary no. 1]: scenes from a place where the future seems so generous. and new paid-tier reflections
April here -
I’m opening a new paid tier for more personal writing: narrative, diary-entry style pieces that are looser, episodic, and occasionally poetic.
It will also include longer-horizon reflections: yearly and quarterly recaps, and sometimes monthly ones, as I practice looking back with intention.
I hope you enjoy this corner of my work <3
It is always in California that I feel the most optimistic. How could you not? Today is Thursday.
I step out of this chic hole-in-the-wall lunch spot in FiDi after an hour and a half lunch with my former manager. Not even ten years into his career, he tells me he’s making over a million a year now, works a 9-to-5, even has the flexibility to take hour and a half lunches whenever he pleases.
I get it. I get the California dreaming.
Last weekend I was in Big Sur, driving down the PCH with my best friend from college. I watched the coastal sun dip into the water, blue ocean reflecting gooey orange before the sun fully disappeared. Then it was night, and the stars were unleashed as far as the eye could see. We were still not yet at our lodging, and stepped out on the highway shoulder to look up at the endless constellations. M pointed out the North Star. Then we debated if what we were looking at was the Little Dipper or the Big Dipper.
